Travellers Got Talent
Travellers Got Talent came to a successful conclusion in Stowmarket on 9 July. And the congratulations go to the winner Olivia Ayres.
In second place was the Romanian Roma band Abel and in third place the Doyle Sisters.
The final at the East Anglian Museum of Rural Life in Stowmarket was a fabulous event with wonderful performances from the winners and runners-up from 9 regional finals in a beautiful, relaxed setting and weather to match.
Well done to all those who worked so hard to make this event so successful.
Contrary to the prejudice expressed by columnist Richard Littlejohn in the Daily Mail, the final didn't feature "tarmacking, tyre-burning and lawnmower racing", but 21 acts that included breakdancing, stepdancing, singing and rapping. The final was the culmination of the third Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month.
The final acts performed on a stage at the heart of the Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket, continuing the museum’s long history of celebrating Gypsy and Traveller heritage and culture. In front of a display of traditional Romany tents, wagons and caravans, acts performed in front of a strong crowd and 4 community judges who decided the winners.
